MH17 monument design revealed
Relatives of victims of the MH17 disaster have decided what they want the national memorial monument to look like - a 6 meter high and 25 meter long wall with the name of all 298 victims engraved on it, ANP reports.
The relatives were given five possible designs and could vote for their favorite. A total of 155 relatives of 139 victims voted for Ronald Westerhuis' wall.
The massive wall, planned to be built in the memorial forest in Vijfhuizen at Schiphol, symbolizes the gravity of the loss, foundation Vliegramp MH17 said. It has an "eye" in the middle, for sunlight to shine through, which symbolizes hope.
The foundation hopes to know whether the plans can continue by fall. They're currently looking into the feasibility of the project and financing.
