Lauded Rotterdam mayor won't challenge Labour leader
Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb will not be running for the position of leader of the PvdA in the elections coming up in March next year. "I am not participating in the party leader elections and the PvdA organizes the elections to come to a party leader. I think that says a lot right?" he said to RTL Nieuws.
This does not come as a surprise to the PvdA, according to the Volkskrant. The party already knew that Aboutaleb, who has many supporters in the polls, sees no sense in an internal struggle. He previously stated that he would only run if current leader Diederik Samsom doesn't.
Aboutaleb does not want an internal struggle to clash wit his duties as mayor of Rotterdam.
It is still unclear whether Samsom is running for party leader again.
