Breda intensifies fight against street prostitution, drug trade

The municipality of Breda is teaming up with social relief foundation SMO and the police to put an end to drug trafficking and street prostitution on Slingerweg. Starting on July 1st the street will be subject to enforcement actions, camera surveillance and other preventative measures, Breda Vandaag reports. According to the municipality, the 24-hour homeless shelter on Slingerweg is like a magnet for hard drugs, street prostitution and other related crimes. "With a lot of inconvenience to the clients of the facility and also residents and workers in the area." The enforcement actions are being carefully prepared. And if necessary the Public Prosecutor will authorize a random stop and search. The area concerned covers Slingerweg between Etnastraat and Smederijstraat, Markkade between Etnastraat and Spoorviaduct, Gieterijstraat, Tramsingel and Smederijstraat. A surveillance group is also being establish to continually monitor the Slingerweg area to stop these crimes returning.
