EasyJet hiring temp pilots to cross picket line Tuesday: Union

EasyJet pilots stationed at Schiphol are striking from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. today, but all flights to and from Amsterdam are continuing as scheduled. According to pilots association VNV, this is because the airline hired temp pilots from abroad to cross the picketing line and take over the flights, BNR reports. The EasyJet pilots are striking for a lesser work load, better sick leave pay and for the employer's contribution to pensions to be increased. A spokesperson for the airline would not confirm to BNR that they deployed so-called strike breakers. He only said that the company is pulling out "all" the stops to make sure that all flights happen. According to VNV president Steven Verhagen, EasyJet is just making the conflict worse by getting foreign pilots to take the Amsterdam flights.
