Leeuwarden air show to continue despite Swiss fighter jet crash
The Leeuwarden air show will go on as planned on Friday and Saturday, despite the Swiss fighter jet crash in Bitgum yesterday. The colleagues of the pilot injured in the crash will not be taking part in the air show, NOS reports.
The Swiss F-5 crashed into a Bitgum pond after a midair collision with another jet. The pilot ejected himself form the plane in time, but injured his ankles when he crashed through a greenhouse roof.
Leeuwarden Airbase Commander Denny Traas thinks the accident is no reason to cancel the air show, according to NOS. He stressed that the audience will be safe - there is a wide safety margin and no stunts will be done above the public.
