Suriname doctors fear medical supply crisis

The association of Medici in Suriname VMS is sounding the alarm about a serious shortage of medical supply due to lack of money. This medical supply crisis is putting the quality of care under pressure, the VMS said in a statement issued on Wednesday, ANP reports. According to the statement, doctors are fully committed to provide care "within the available resources". But if structural solutions are not found soon, "the risk is increasing that human life may be lost." The VMS board had emergency meetings with various hospitals on Wednesday. Suriname is in serious financial trouble due to the current low prices on its two main exports - oil and gold.
