Zeeland resident stumbles on hundreds of kilos of cocaine
A 33-year-old Westkapelle resident made a surprising discovery while walking along the Zeeland town’s coast when he found a package containing hundreds of kilograms of what police believe is cocaine, authorities announced on Sunday. The find was initially reported at 6 p.m. a day earlier as a suspicious package, which turned out be be several sports bags tied to jerry cans.
The bags were spotted at the war memorial on the Zeedijk in Westkapelle. Responding officers collected the items and brought them to the police station in Middelburg.
Investigators still needed to perform further tests on the content as of Sunday morning. If the entire substance tests positive for cocaine, it could have a street value of between 10 and 15 million euros, broadcaster NOS reported.
