Netherlands football squad falls to 16th in FIFA ranking

After the elimination from the European Champions, the Dutch football team fell from 14th to 16h place on the FIFA rankings. Belgium is on first place for the first time ever, NU reports. Oranje has been overtaken by Italy, moving from 17th to 13th, and Uruguay, moving from 20th to 12th place. Turkey, who finished third in Group A of the European Championship qualifiers at the expense of the Netherlands, leaped 19 places and is currently on number 18. This is the first time in 15 years that the Netherlands is not in the top 10 of the FIFA rankings. This is also the first time since the 2002 World Cup that Oranje is missing a big tournament.
