MINI Convertible assembly headed to Netherlands firm
Born based company VDL Nedcar will soon also be assembling the new MINI Convertible, the VDL Groep and BMW Group announced in a joint press release on Friday. Production on the MINI Convertibles will start in November 2015.
VDL Nedcar started producing the new MINI in July last year. According to the company, the assignment of a new model shows that the BMW Group has confidence in the Dutch automaker and wants to expend cooperation even further.
Unlike with the new MINI, which is also produced in Oxford, the MINI Convertible will be exclusively manufactured at VDL Nedcar in Born. "VDL Nedcar is proud of the award of an exclusive model", the company writes in its press release. "In the history of the company this is the 21st model to be introduced, but it is the first time that we will build a convertible."
According to VDL, preparation for the production is running on schedule and the first MINI Convertibles will be hitting the road from Born before the end of this year.
