Minister Ard van der Steur of Security and Justice will be meeting with forensic pathologist George Maat on Wednesday. Maat was fired from the MH17 forensic investigation team after a controversial lecture in which he showed photos of the MH17 victims.

The lecture was held at the University of Maastricht and was open to the public, although the pathologist seemed to be unaware of that fact.

Van der Steur initially voiced strong criticism against Maat, calling his actions "extremely inappropriate and distasteful". The Minister recently also refused to apologize to Maat, who demanded an apology after the Minister stated that clearer rules were needed on the use of pictures in lectures.

"In future cases of large-scale and complex identifications it is not ruled out that an appeal will again be made on the expertise of Professor Maat. We hope that he will be prepared to contribute", Van der Steur said to the Tweede Kamer, lower house of parliament, on Monday, NU reports.
