Mom, baby doing well after highway birth

Baby Tim was so excited to meet the world that he could not wait for his mom to reach the hospital. He was born just after midnight on Sunday morning on the A2 highway near Vught, surrounded by police officers holding umbrellas to protect mom, midwife and baby from the rain. Both mom and baby are doing well. Mom Marieke de Groot told the AD on Monday that she cannot recommend giving birth in the car. "I was pretty panicked, you would rather give birth in a hospital bed", she said to the newspaper. "It is unreal. Only after it turned out that everything was well with the little one in the hospital, I could not believe my luck." Dad Robbie had to pull over about 3 kilometers from the hospital because little Tim would wait no longer. "The mother had the urge to push, the baby wanted out", said Sanne the midwife, luckily she was following the couple to the hospital, so she was there to help with the birth. "I parked my car behind them and went to work. You can do nothing else." Marieke did not lack for assistance. In addition to the midwife, her husband was there to help and Tim's grandparents were there to offer support. Even the police officers, who rushed to the scene to close the highway for their safety, came in handy - they held umbrellas over the birthing scene to protect them from the rain. "It was pretty rough, in a car seat, with rock hard rain. I only tried to listen to the midwife as well as possible", Marieke said. Mom and baby are back home and both are doing well. Kevin, Marieke's one year old son, loves cuddling with his new brother. The only blemish to the De Groot home's happiness is the car, which suffered under the birth. "I hope we can work something out with the insurance, because we really need a new one", Marieke said to the newspaper. https://twitter.com/WijkAg_BoxtelCe/status/632779124558442496
