Rainmap – Umbrella and city map in one
Now for the first time tourists and residents in Amsterdam can enjoy the innovative combination of rain protection and city map in one. Rainmap, the popular umbrella printed with a city map on the inside, is now available in Amsterdam. Summer thunderstorms and rain showers will no longer bring the residents of Amsterdam and their visitors off course so quickly. Thanks to Rainmap, a glance upwards is all it takes to make sure you keep the most important streets, squares and sights in view. Yet the new city umbrella is more than just a design souvenir. In practical trials it has demonstrated its windproof quality and superior finish. Rainmap is also lightweight, compact and fits into any bag.
“We’ve simply been overwhelmed by the positive response that our city umbrella has been receiving from all sides,” says Jessica Kohl, Managing Director at Rainmap. In 2011, she founded the Rainmap company together with Daniel Serrano and Holger Kohl and jointly put their idea into practice. As Kohl points out: “Tourists somehow never have enough hands: camera in the left hand, street map in the right, umbrella under the chin. We thought there must be a better way. And that’s how the idea came about.” The Hamburg-based start-up launched its new invention onto the German market in the middle of last year and is delighted by how popular Rainmap has become, both amongst city residents and urban tourists. Now Rainmap is expanding across Europe and is including Amsterdam as the first new city in its portfolio. The Amsterdam Rainmap umbrella costs about 19 euros, and is available at retailers Invotis, &Klevering and Nieuws, as well as on the Rainmap website. Individual printing or tags make Rainmap a special gift suitable for anyone, from corporate clients to wedding guests. Apart from Amsterdam, the design umbrella with a touch of charm is also available in Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Essen, Leipzig, Dresden, Nuremberg, Stuttgart, Freiburg and Bremen.
