Zoo visitor dies after monkey startles him

A 37 year old man from Dedemsvaart passed away in hospital on Sunday after a fall in the Emmen Zoo caused by a monkey startling him. The man was standing on a staircase in the tropical greenhouse when he fell and landed on his head. It is not clear why the monkey scared him so. He was rushed to the hospital in a trauma helicopter, where he died as a result of his injuries. Spokesperson for the zoo Hanneke Wijshake told RTV Drenthe that the accident affected the zoo's staff greatly. "Our attention is now mainly focused on the family of the victim."
