D66 calls for humanitarian aid to Greece

The D66 wants the Netherlands to send humanitarian aid, in the form of medicines and money, to Greece if the chaos in the country continues for another week. "In Europe and the Netherlands we have various pots of money for real emergency aid and humanitarian issues", D66 parliamentarian Wouter Koolmees said to BNR. "You see that real problems will arise and that supermarkets and pharmacies threaten to close. If this lasts another week and the problems only get worse, the Netherlands should be willing to contribute a bit of support." On Sunday the majority of the Greek population voted "no" to the European lenders' proposals in the referendum. The Tweede Kamer, lower house of parliament, had a debate on the referendum and the consequences of the "no vote" on Monday.
