Lawyers: MH17 war tribunal a bad idea
To international criminal lawyers think that having the perpetrators responsible for the disaster with flight MH17 judged by an international tribunal, is a very bad idea. "We know that tribunals do not work well", criminal lawyer Goran Sluiter said to RTL Nieuws. "That is because countries do not cooperate. Countries do not go after suspects. The don't do joint investigations. Look at President Al-Bashir of Sudan. He has been wanted for years, but he simply travels fro country to country without being arrested. Lawyer Gert-Jan Knoops agrees with this point of view. "Look at other tribunals, such as the Lebanon Tribunal. No one ever shows up. Judges sit in an empty room. They judge people that aren't there. The suspects are thus absent. There you have nothing."
