Police: Car owners should buy dashcams

The police and judiciary are encouraging motorists to buy and install a dashcam in their car as its recordings are increasingly used as evidence in proceedings against traffic violators. "Many recordings can be used as evidence and we like to see that", police spokesperson Rob van der Veen told the Telegraaf. "If an accident or traffic violation is filmed from a car, that is more than welcome. Sometimes the images are so clear that there is no escape for the offender or offenders." Dashboard cameras, or daschcams as they are more widely known, are increasingly popular in the Netherlands. About 100 thousand people are currently driving around with a dashcam installed in their car.
