Anton Corbijn photo exhibit held over in Hague
The Gemeentemuseum and Fotomuseum in The Hague decided to wish Anton Corbijn happy birthday by extending his photo exhibit 1-2-3-4 in the Fotomuseum to August 16th, the Fotomuseum announced on Wednesday.
Director Benno Tempel made this decision based on the huge success of both the 1-2-3-4 exhibit in the Fotomuseum and the HOLLANDS DEEP exhibit in the Gemeentemusuem. These exhibits have attracted more than 130 thousand visitors - a record for the Fotomuseum.
"Corbijn's work is embraced by young and old. We see that the exhibits partially draw a new audience to the museum. A large part of them also walk along our beautiful Mondriaans or highlights of the Hague School after their visits", Tempel said.
The museums organized the double exhibition to celebrate Corbijn's 60th birthday. The exhibitions present the most complete overview of his work to date. HOLLANDS DEEP, which Corbijn describes as his "best of", shows how he developed over 40 years, from a music lover to a successful photographer and artist. The 1-2-3-4 exhibit displays 400, some never seen before, photos Corbijn took of bands and sol musicians.
According to the museum, the exhibitions were very well received, both on a national and international level. About the 1-2-3-4 exhibit, CNN wrote that "if these music legends could climb down from the walls, they would form a line-up with no equivalent in any music festival we know".
