Rotterdam: ban heavily polluting vehicles by 2016

Rotterdam is banning old and polluting cars from the northern part of the city within the ring from January 1st, 2016. There is already a ban on polluting vehicles in part of that area. That area will now be expanded, NOS reports. From January 1st, no diesel cars made before 2001 and no petrol cars made before July 1992 will be allowed to drive there. Utrecht's ban on polluting cars took effect on January 1st this year. During the first four months offenders got off with a written warning. But from May 1st, anyone who drives a diesel vehicle older than 2001 into the city, will receive a 90 euro fine.
