Thousands worldwide send postcards to Dutch girl with terminal cancer
Monique Mengers from Winterswijk has asked the world to fulfill her dying three-year-old daughter's last wish: Please send little Isa and her sister Suus a postcard.
Isa has a malignant brain tumor and nothing more can be done to treat it. She was diagnosed with cancer two years ago. Last year it seemed that the girl conquered the cancer, but it recently came back. "We have known for a month now that Isa will not get better. It's terrible. We haven't told Isa. How do you say something like that to a child of three? But she feels it," Monique, 39, told Omroep Gelderland.
Isa's older sister Suus, 8, knows what's going on. "Those two are two peas in a pod," Monique said. "Suus goes to school as normal and if she doesn't want to, she stays at home. We've arranged that with the school."
The family celebrated Easter a few weeks early, in case little Isa would not make it. But Isa is still here and still fighting and she only has one wish: "I would like to receive post cards and Suus too."
Isa's wish has been spread through various forms of social media and has reached more than 150,000 people. The post on Reddit has received more than 500 comments, from people vowing to send the girl a card and asking for translations to Dutch so that Isa can understand it. One letter dictated by five-year-old Brady from Melbourne, Australia, to his dad states: "I am thinking about you and talking about you with my dad. I hope my letter makes you smile because smiling means you feel good."
Postcards and letters can be sent to Isa at this address:
