NS staff protest violence, refuse ticket checks
Train conductors in Rotterdam did not check any tickets Tuesday and urged their colleagues in the rest of the Netherlands to join this action to draw attention to the aggression against train staff, NOS reports.
It is difficult to predict how many conductors will actually join this action, but the promoters are positive. "We want to do something to draw attention to the aggression against train staff. Because it does not stop," campaigner Jos Stevens told the newspaper. His colleague Peter den Haan agrees. "We are now conducting a customer-friendly action, but many colleagues want tougher actions which also affect the travelers. Because the measure is full. The people are furious about what happened to their colleagues. And they say that the problems will not disappear by drawing attention to aggression on the trains."
The unions do not support this action. FNV hopes that not many people will join the action. "We are talking with NS about the problems," said negotiator Huub van den Dungen. These consultations will resume on Thursday. We advise people to not take action at this stage of consultation.
