Utrecht wants La Vuelta to follow Tour de France, Giro wins

After winning bids for the 2015 Tour de France and 2010 Giro d'Italia determined Utrecht as the starting place for both bicycle races, the Business Platoon Utrecht (BPU) wants to make the city the starting point for famed Spanish cycling race, La Vuelta, as well, AD reports. This would make Utrecht the only city in the world to have hosted all three major cycling races. BPU is now aiming to place the start of the La Vuelta tour of Spain in Utrecht in 2019. The city has already asked the Netherlands' Olympic Committee - Dutch Sport Federation (NOC-NSF) to also name the municipality as a host candidate for these so called European Games. A joint bid from Amsterdam and Rotterdam was made for the 2019 European Games. The chairman of BPU, Cor Jansen, is convinced that Utrecht has the potential to win the Vuelta bid, just 100 days before the start of Tour de France. "There is now such a great dynamic movement in the city, it would be a shame if the sequel did not come here," Jansen says.
