81 yr old held in shooting of Reeuwijk man

An elderly man landed in jail Wednesday night after gunning down a 52-year-old man in Reeuwijk. The incident occurred just before 6.00 p.m. Police say realtor Frits Lafeber had gone to the house at De Ree in Reeuwijk, to show it to the unnamed 81 year old.

What happened once the two men met inside is unclear, but police say that "at a certain moment shots were fired and Lafeber was struck." Though injured, the realtor actually restrained the elderly man until police arrived in the scene. The shooter was arrested and Lafeber was transported to a hospital, where he was treated and released later on.

Forensic detectives have done extensive research in the house. Police say Lafeber has not made a statement yet and that while it is not clear what prompted the shooting, it appears the two men had a business dispute. Algemeen Dagblad reports that the house in question had been on the market for a while, dropping in price to €1.5 million. Lafeber is a 20-year veteran in the real estate business. Colleagues have reported that he is "doing okay under the circumstances."
