Boys pelt supermarket robbers with baskets

Two men who tried to rob a Spar supermarket at Nieuwe Kerkstraat in Amsterdam Saturday night, had not factored in that in stead of cash they might catch grocery baskets.

According to AT5, the robbery started and ended in total of 30 seconds. A witness told the TV station one of the men pulled out a gun and tried to stick up the cashier; the other was wielding a knife. The masked robbers almost succeeded until two boys who were standing close by, grabbed grocery baskets and threw them at them. Angered, one robber then pointed his gun at the boys and actually pulled the trigger, but the weapon appeared to be a toy gun, the witness said. The robbers then still managed to grab some money out of the cashier’s bin and ran, but they lost most of it as they were running away. Outside they jumped on a scooter and fled.
