Water board election results trickle in
The first results of the water board elections have started trickling in. The preliminary results show that the CDA and VVD did well compared to the water board elections of 2008. The PvdA is lagging behind. 50Plus have achieved good results in most water boards in the preliminary results, NRC reports based on information for the Association of Water Boards.
Of the rural water specific parties, Water Natturlijk seems to have maintained their support, while Algemene Waterschapspartij results vary. Most water boards will receive preliminary election results from the municipalities during the course of the day.
This was the first time that the water board elections took place at the same time as the provincial elections. The turnout was 44 percent, according to the Association of Water Boards based on information from 17 of the 22 water boards. That is almost double the turnout of the 2008 water board elections (22.7 percent).
The final results of the water board elections will likely only come out five days after the actual voting, according to the Electoral Council. This has to do with the way that the water boards are organized and the fact that the municipalities had to give the provincial elections priority.
