Solar farms set for old coal, gas plants in Gelderland
Two large solar farms are set to be erected in Nijmegen and Zwolle, NU reports.
The solar farm in Nijmegen will be constructed around the existing Gelderland plant, one of the older and less efficient coal plants. The farm in Zwolle will be built at an old gas plant which is currently operating only a few days per year. A total of 7,500 panels will be placed at both locations.
The solar farms will be the size of about three football fields each and will provide energy for an average of 470 households. According to power company GDF, they will output approximately 1 megawatt of power, placing them among the largest solar farms in the Netherlands.
