Tough marijuana growshop law takes effect

Grow shops are illegal in the Netherlands from today, as a result of an amendment to the Opium Act which takes effect today. This mans that selling preparation items for cannabis cultivation, such as lamps, nutrients and breeding lofts, is now a punishable offense. Violators of this new law can face a prison sentence of up to 5 years or a maximum fine of 81 thousand euros.
