Driver who ran over girl caught 9 times without license
The 25 year old A.E. from Oosterhout, who ran over Ellen Askamp (17) in 2011, has been caught driving without a license 9 times since his release in 2013, Omroep Brabant reports. He will appear in court on April 29th.
In July last year the court ruled that the man's license is suspended for 6 years. He was also given a prison sentence of nearly 4 years, but because he spent such a long time in custody, he did not have to return to jail. The judge called the fatal collision the result of "a wild ride". A.E hit the 17 year old girl with his car on the ring road of Breda in April 2011. She was on her way home after a night out. A.E. was driving at a speed of at least 110 kilometers per hour - 40 km p/h over the speed limit. He sped away after the accident, without even checking on the girl he'd just hit. It later turned out that he was drunk behind the wheel, according to Omroep Brabant.
According to the police, the 9 times A.E. was caught driving without a license were all recently and all happened after the fatal accident. The last time was last week Wednesday. Officers caught the man driving an uninsured vehicle in the Oosterhout neighborhood Oosterheide. The man had 9 grams of hashish on his person. The police arrested him, seized the drugs and impounded the car. He insulted one of the officers during his arrest.
E. has to appear in front of the magistrate in Breda on April 29th, Omroep Brabant reports. He is accused of driving without a license, drug possession and insulting a police officer.
