Dutch debit cards make way for contactless payment
Dutch banks are working on apps that will enable contactless payment via a smartphone. According to the AD, everyone will have the choice between paying with a debit card or via a smartphone within a year.
Rabobank is the first bank to do this with its Rabo Wallet. The bank will offer mobile payment on two Samsung phones within weeks. "With it you can make a contactless payment of up to 50 euros. Anything more than that you need a PIN code, which you type on your phone", said Margo van Wijgerden of Rabobank.
ING is also busy with apps that will replace the debit card. "We have done tests and people are enthusiastic", said vincent van den Boogert of ING. ING expects these apps to be available before the end of the year.
