Engineering award named for late Prince Friso

The Royal Institute for Engineers (KIVI) announced that they are naming the Engineer of the Year award after Prince Friso. The Engineer of the Year is an annual prize awarded by the institute. Prince Friso was a mechanical- and aerospace engineer and a member of KIVI. According to a press release KIVI released last week, the prince moved emphatically on the cutting edge of engineering and society. His inspiring legacy to the world of engineering makes it particularly appropriate to name the award after him. "Prince Friso always used his knowledge and skills interdisciplinary and in a broad context. He thereby always stressed the importance of innovation and attracting young people to technology." the press release states. "Linking the name of Prnce Friso to engineers gives it special momentum and is of great value to underline the social importance of engineers." The first Prince Friso Engineers prize will be awarded on March 18th, 2015 - the Day of the Engineer - at the University of Twente.
