Bird flu damages total over €10m weekly

The bird flu epidemic has claimed a over 10 million euros in damages to the poultry industry this week, and between 9 to 10 million euros last week, according to the calculations by the LEI research institute. Following the national ban on transportation of all poultry products, after a positive test for bird flu (HPAI) on 16 November, the poultry industry is suffering a detrimental loss of an estimated €10 million euros per week. In total, there are six companies who have lost circa 270,000 birds since the first positive test for avian influenza. The outbreak led to three-day bans on the transportation of poultry on Sunday 16 November, Tuesday 19 November and a compartmental ban on the supply of day old chicks from Sunday 23 November.
