Amsterdam cleans up at Michelin Star awards

On Monday Amsterdam restaurants received a total of 20 Michelin stars, meaning that Amsterdam remains the undisputed culinary capital of the Netherlands. The new star guide was presented in the Vrijthof Theatre in Maastricht on Monday. The biggest surprise in Amsterdam is the entrance of Librije's Zusje, located in Wladorf on Herengracht. This restaurant has been assigned two stars by the prestigious guide after being open for only seven months. Michelin director Michael Ellis named master chef Sidney Schutte as a symbol of many young Dutch chefs who distinguish themselves with refreshing styles. "Special things are happening in culinary Netherlands. And not just in the big cities, but also in the provinces where many young and talented chefs do wonderful things with local produce." The Librije in Zwolle, De Leest in Vaassen were the only two restaurants to receive three Michelin stars. Five restaurants were given their first Michelin star. These restaurants are the Japanese restaurant Sazanka in Amsterdam, Sinne restaurant in Amsterdam, Wiesen restaurant in EIndhoven, Ratatouille Food & Wine in Haarlem and FG Food Labs in Rotterdam. According to Michael Ellis of the Michelin Guide, the Netherlands is among the countries with the top cuisine.
