First new Schiphol security measures open

Schiphol as made a start with the new central security controls, which will replace the check at the gate completely in 2015. The airport announced yesterday that the first of the five new checkpoints is now in use. This means that soon passengers will only need to go through the control once. According to Jos Nijhuis, CEO of Schiphol, the idea behind the new approach is to make the security checks as pleasant as possible. The space at the checkpoint has almost doubled, there are larger containers for the scanners and the gates will open if you hold your boarding pass up to it. In 2015 Schiphol will have a total of three checkpoints for departing passengers and two for transfer passengers. The first checkpoint is now open.
