Five run over by elderly drunk driver

A 73 year old motorist from Harlingen drove into a group of pedestrians near the Beursbrug in Leeuwarden on Monday afternoon. A total of 5 pedestrians were hit. Four people were injured and taken to the hospital. The motorist drove his car into oncoming (one way) traffic on the bridge. He hit the pedestrians at full speed on the pedestrian walkway. The man was arrested for driving under the influence. Beursplein is always very busy in the afternoon. Many bystanders rushed to help the victims.
