Record number of cars on Netherlands roads

The number of cars in the Netherlands has grown to record size, De Telegraaf reports. 8.154 million cars currently populate the Netherlands' highways, nearly 2 million more than in the year 2000. According to Metro newspaper, this means that there is one care for every 2.1 residents. This is not great for the environment, but very good for the treasury. An estimated 1.5 billion euro in motor vehicle tax is collected. Remarkably the rising number of cars has no effect on the number of fatal car accidents, which is on the decline
