Fugitives caught in heroin bust
Two French fugitives were arrested by police in Oegstgeest, Zuid Holland Wednesday after having been on the run for eight months. Both had been convicted for the large-scale importation of hard drugs from the Netherlands to France, according to a police report.
After arresting the duo, aged 28 and 24, investigators found a sizeable stash of drugs. Police say they took 12 kilos of cut heroine, one kilogram of cocaine, and 250 grams of pure heroine into evidence after a search of the apartment where the men were found. The pair had both been convicted and sentenced separately to ten years in prison in France this past October. The 28-year-old man managed to escape while being escorted to prison. Authorities in the Netherlands received a lead that he was in the vicinity of Leiden, which led to his capture.
The 24-year-old fugitive was found hiding at the scene. Both were captured by a special unit of the police department that tracks down convicted felons who fail to appear for their sentences. Zack Newmark contributed to this report.
