Dutch take "Biggest Meatball" record
The making of the world's biggest meatball has been achieved by butcher Johannes Hoekstra from Leeuwarden, with a little help from Groningen butcher Rieks Kroon with a delivery of 643 kilograms of mince. The team has made it into the Guinness Book of World Records.
The enormously rotund hunk of meat needed a fork-lift to be transported. It was kept in a steel mould, and placed in a smoking cupboard. Around 30 hours later, the meatball was brought to a stage where it could be weighed by an official.
Weighing in at 643 kilograms, the gigantic meatball scored the world record. The old record stood at 503 kilograms, and was crafted by an American team.
The winning Dutch butchers celebrated by carving slices from the meatball and feeding them to the crowd. The leftovers were frozen.
