Senior citizen held in child molest case

Police have arrested a 74-year-old man in connection with the sexual abuse of two children in Breskens.

They say the man became a suspect after the primary school students and their parents reported the molest. The man, a resident of the parish of Sluis, is being held at the Middelburg police station since Wednesday.

The girls, who attend the same school, have meanwhile been heard by police, while authorities investigate whether there were others that were also molested.

Police hint that they are also still investigating which role exactly the man played in sexual abuse and have urged others not to make a judgment on the case before their investigation is completed.

The parish of Sluis held an information session about the case last night, together with the public primary school of Breskens.
