Afghan diplomat booted from NL

The Afghan diplomat who beat up a 23-year old Dutch person at the end of last year is being ordered back to his country. The embassy of Afghanistan has paid damages to the victim. Minister Timmermans said this after making the decision that the misbehavior of diplomats must be tackled. He finds especially that diplomatic immunity should be revoked in cases of misbehavior, to allow for prosecution. The Afghan, who was stationed in The Hague, punched the Dutch man several times and also damaged his car. Last week, it appeared that he was not able to be prosecuted for his actions. Minister Timmermans would have rather seen the man be brought in front of the court than receive the punishment he got. The Afghan diplomat is being forced back to his country. "He won't come back here anymore. And with that, the case is closed, regrettably. I do think that Afghanistan cooperated well with us in this issue. The country in the end decided to call the man back, after pressure from our side."
