Carriage driver dies when horses run wild

A 58-year-old carriage driver died Tuesday afternoon on Walcheren in Grijpskerke, Zealand, when his horses got spooked for unknown reason and took off running. Horses and carriage ended up in a ditch. The driver, a local from Meliskerke, got stuck underneath the carriage. He was freed by firefighters and taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries later that day. The horses survived the accident, although it's not clear whether they sustained any injuries. Firefighters had to hoist them out of the ditch, after which they were taken back to their stable.
