Alleged drug ring leader acquitted

Shurendy Q., the alleged drug ring leader, suspected of trafficking cocaine from the Dutch Caribbean to the Netherlands by way of Schiphol, was acquitted of all charges today by the Schiphol court. The court came to the verdict because the Public Prosecution failed to proof Q.'s guilt beyond any doubt. The acquittal follows his release from remand late January. The Prosecution had demanded 15 years in prison against the 31-year-old suspect. Q.'s accomplice, Franklin A. was less fortunate. The Prosecution accused the 40-year-old Antillean of being Q.'s second in command and demanded a prison sentence of 15 years. The court sentenced A. to 12 years in prison.
