Online banking outages nearly quadruple
The number of days that internet banking suffered outages has almost quadrupled in the first two months of 2014, in comparison to the same period in 2013.
In January and February 2014 bank's online services were down no less than 377 times website allestoringen.nl reported. Research by the website shows that ING has performed the worst by far. The website analyzed 80,000 about ABN AMRO, ING, Rabo and SNS Banks. Combined the banks had 62 days of outages in January and February 2014. In the same months of 2013 internetbanking was down for just 13 days.
The site says ING Bank suffered the most outages; the bank had no less than 21 problem days in the two months, as opposed to five last year. ABN AMRO went from no outage in January and February last year to 16 so far in 2014. Rabo Bank went from six to 20. SNS Bank noted the least outages, five.
“Nowhere in the world do outages cause as much nuisance as they do in the Netherlands,” allestoringen.nl owner Tom Sanders told Elseviers. He said it is difficult to pinpoint what the problem was. “Most of the problems were human. (But) the true reasons are only known to the banks and they are not that eager to reveal much.”
