Dutch break Olympic medal record

The Winter Olympics in Sochi will go on until February 23, but only 6 days into the games the Dutch team has managed to win a record number of 12 medals. Earlier Thursday Ireen Wüst en Margot Boer won a silver and a bronze medal respectively on the 1,000 m women's skating. Sven Kramer, Jan Blokhuijsen, Jorrit Bergsma, Michel Mulder, Jan Smeekens, Ronald Mulder, and Stefan Groothuis also won medals. Wüst, Mulder, and Boer each won two medals. So far the team has been good for 5 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze medals, and the games are still young. As a comparison, the Dutch won 8 medals in Vancouver in 2010, 9 in Turin in 2006, 8 in Salt Lake City in 2002, and 11 in Nagano in 1998. The most successful Summer games so far were the ones in Sydney, in 2000, where the Dutch won 25 medals, 12 gold, 9 silver, and 4 bronze.
