Asscher: legal requirements mosque boarding schools
Minister Lodewijk Asscher wants to submit private boarding schools, including mosque boarding schools, to legal requirements to increase the safety and wellbeing of the children. Last year boarding schools attracted some negative publicity, which concerned the Minister.
Asscher discussed the issues with the Cities and the boarding schools and some preventive measures were taken. Each staff member has to present a certificate of good conduct and the boarding school has to have a confidant. Asscher also wants a law that will help the Cities to address any problems. Cities want to monitor boarding schools more often, but are not supported by legislation to back them up. The boarding schools are not obligated to coöperate with any inspections the Cities want to perform. The Minister thinks it helps the children integrate into society if they take part in it. He wants to prevent children growing up 'as strangers to society.' The requirements will apply to all private boarding schools, mosque boarding schools and shelters for victims of loverboys alike.
