Delta flyer pilot injured in crash

A 53-year-old man from Halle, Belgium was critically injured when he crashed his Delta flyer into the dunes at Zoutelande, Walcheren this morning . Police suspect the man lost control over aircraft when it got flung back by an unexpected gust of wind.

He had taken off from a designated starting point for delta flyers in the dunes of Zoutelande, close to Westkapelle around 10:45 this morning. The aircraft crashed . Paramedics were at the scene swiftly, but  when they assessed the victim's condition to be very serious, a trauma helicopter was dispatched to transport the man to UMC Rotterdam. A recent study showed a spike in the number of serious incidents and accidents in general aviation in 2012. The European Union is putting in an effort to manage the skills and risk perception of pilots.
