Shots fired after failed breathalyzer

A 23-year-old man was shot by the police on the Waterlooplein in Amsterdam Saturday night, when he took off in his car, after a breathalyzer showed he was intoxicated. The man took off, nearly missing an officer, only to crash into a motorized officer a little later. The police opened fire, but the suspect managed to escape, though wounded. Harley-politie

Wikimedia commons A report of a man who was shot on the Hestia street brought the police back on his track and he was recognized as the suspect who had gotten away at the alcohol checkpoint. He sustained several gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital, where he was arrested. His condition is not critical, reported the police. The suspect's car was later found near the Haarlemmer Houttuinen. The police are investigating whether the man was indeed wounded by police bullets, and how he got from the Haarlemmer Houttuinen to the Hestia street, a few miles further. The suspect is under arrest for attempted manslaughter and driving under influence. The motorized officer was wounded and was admitted to the hospital.
