Fireworks hotline down again
The hotline for reporting illegal fireworks was down several hours on Thursday as a result of a cyber-attack. Wednesday evening the site was down for several hours after a cyber attack, and Thursday it was attacked again.Earlier Thursday the site had registered a little over 10,000 complaints. Reports concerning loud bangs and damages by fireworks are coming in from all over the country, according to Arno Bonte, GroenLinks chairman in Rotterdam and one of the initiators for the Hotline. Bonte has no idea who could be responsible for the cyber attacks.
Vuurwerkoverlast.nl is an initiative of fifteen local GroenLinks fractions, and is supported by the Dutch Ophthalmic Society. Up to January 4th, nuisance caused by fireworks can be reported through the website. The initiators are planning to combine the results in a report that they want to present to the House and fifteen mayors.
Last year 82,000 complaints came in over a period of several weeks.
