Netherlands Investigates Miley Cyrus Smoking At MTV EMA Awards

The Netherlands authorities are probing U.S. pop star Miley Cyrus smoking during the MTV Europe Music Awards 2013 in Amsterdam on Sunday night. Miley Cyrus / Flickr The Dutch authorities have started investigation into whether a smoking ban was violated after U.S. pop star Miley Cyrus lit up a joint on stage during the show, AFP news agency reports. "We received complaints about smoking which was also seen on television. We have to investigate," Tjitte Mastenbroek of the National Food and Consumer Authority (NVWA) told AFP on Tuesday. "We will shortly be meeting the Ziggo Dome's management to check what exactly happened there." During live awards show at the Ziggo Dome, Cyrus lit up what appeared to be a cannabis cigarette on stage. She won the Best Video award for her hit single "Wrecking Ball." The smoking scene was cut by MTV when it rebroadcast the show in the United States, according to AFP. Cannabis is illegal in the Netherlands, but possession of less than five grammes, around a sixth of an ounce, was decriminalized in 1976.
