Netherlands in Talks with US Over Phone Tapping
News agency ANP reports that Netherlands has been in talks with United States about phone tapping and other security activities by U.S. secret service National Security Agency (NSA).
The Dutch government could make mutual agreements with NSA, according to Home affairs minister Ronald Plasterk.
Talks are already underway between the NSA and Dutch security service AIVD, a spokesman for the minister said.
Dutch technology website Tweakers reported the NSA tapped 1.8 million Dutch telephones in one month last year. The U.S. secret agency tapped calls between the beginning of December and beginning of January. It rerecorded information about number and possibly location, according to Tweakers.
