The fire department reported earlier an alarm central employee and firefighters tried in vain to talk to the man on the phone Saturday, and convince him to leave his property.

The fire department finished putting out smoldering burned buildings Sunday evening. The extinguishing ended shortly before midnight, about 30 hours after the outbreak of the fire and 17 hours after signaling they had the fire under control.
The police are looking for witnesses who were around at the time the fire broke out in one of the buildings.
In particular, police are looking for people who were in the area of the Kelders 29. The store Wonder Style was located on the ground floor of that building.
The people who lost their homes to the fire are given priority in finding alternative housing. The housing associations will support them, announced the City of Leeuwarden to news agency ANP.
11 houses and 5 shops went up in flames. Additionally, it is not yet clear how many more houses are corrupted to the point they are temporarily or permanently uninhabitable. Parts of the Kelders, the Minnemastraat, and Poststraat are still restricted, but those areas are becoming increasingly smaller.
