Youngest mayor installed
Starting today Scherpenzeel is run by the youngest mayor of The Netherlands. The 31-year-old Ben Visser was installed in an extraordinary council meeting in the Veluwe town.Visser was alderman for the ChristenUnie since 2010 and deputy mayor in the municipality of Urk. In recent months, he was in Scherpenzeel one day a week to prepare himself for his new role.
The new mayor comforts residents who are concerned about his ChristenUnie background by telling De Woudenberger.nl, a local newspaper, the pool will not close on Sunday due to the arrival of a new mayor. That is a matter for the council to decide.
